Murphy & King Shareholder Kathleen Cruickshank Named a “Top Woman of Law” by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly

Murphy & King, P.C. announced today that Shareholder Kathleen R. Cruickshank has been chosen as an honoree at Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly’s annual “Top Women of Law” event. Cruickshank is one of 50 Top Women that will be honored at the virtual event on Tuesday, November 17, 2020.

Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly’s “Top Women of Law” event “celebrates the achievements of exceptional women lawyers who are pioneers, educators, trailblazers and role models.” It honors women who demonstrate excellence through leadership, innovation, pro bono commitment and a dedication to giving back to the community.

Ms. Cruickshank focuses her practice on corporate and consumer bankruptcies, with an emphasis on representation of debtors in Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 cases and Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 bankruptcy trustees in the liquidation of assets and litigation matters. Ms. Cruickshank is a highly experienced bankruptcy practitioner who appears regularly in the United States Bankruptcy Court and has represented bankruptcy trustees before the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the Alcoholic Beverages and Control Commission.

Ms. Cruickshank was formerly with the Office of the United States Trustee, United States Department of Justice for the Districts of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island, and was the Assistant United States Trustee in the San Jose Office of the United States Trustee for the Northern District of California. Prior to her 10 years of service with the United States Department of Justice, Ms. Cruickshank represented debtors and creditors in bankruptcy matters. Ms. Cruickshank served as a law clerk for the United States Trustee for the District of Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island from 1985-1987.

In addition, on September 1, 2020, Ms. Cruickshank became the incoming Section Co-chair for the Bankruptcy Law Committee of the Boston Bar Association (BBA) beginning. Over the past few years, she has organized many educational events for the BBA.  During the COVID19 pandemic, she helped develop virtual educational events around bankruptcy and was also named to the BBA’s Bankruptcy Section’s newly formed COVID-19 standing committee.
